Exploring Sustainability Across the Arts (ESA) is a year-long initiative that aims to explore sustainable alternatives to vinyl signage in museums, galleries, and other arts and cultural spaces, as well as examining perspectives on sustainability across the arts. The project contributes to a zero-waste culture at Concordia University with a uniquely-situated artistic focus, by offering free workshops, public talks and panels, as well as emerging student perspectives on sustainability in the form of a student publication, to the Concordia community and broader Montreal arts community. At the end of the year, the project will produce a free French/English toolkit that showcases practical sustainable signage practices that will be widely circulated and promoted by the gallery. Through this project, we aim to encourage and share innovative, practical, and experimental approaches and deepen our practical knowledge of sustainable exhibition practices.
