Women in Engineering host a Power Networking event for women Engineering students at Concordia, with the aim of encouraging the presence of women in the engineering field by providing them opportunities of improving their professional networks. This event is organized with the goal of professionals providing guidance to current students, by discussing topics such as challenges faced in the field, diversity in the workforce and the different paths they have taken in order to achieve their goals. This event also helps gain valuable insight by successful rolemodels that will help to guide their career choices.
Women in Engineering hosted a Wine & Cheese for all Concordia Engineering students, with the aim of encouraging the presence of women in the engineering field by providing them opportunities of improving their professional networks. A portion of the event was dedicated to promoting sustainable practices to students. Local wines, beers, and foods coming from sustainable sources we served, and we encouraged similar choices to our students. We invited many sustainable and ethical companies to our event and encouraging them to promote and go in depth about their sustainable actions to our students, which allowed students to have a larger network of contacts from sustainable companies. We hosted an introduction of companies towards the beginning of the event that allowed the students to approach the companies more easily. During the brief introductions, we asked them to share one way that their company engages in sustainable practices. We facilitated the asking of open-ended questions in order to educate our attendees on sustainable practices and better engage our students in the discussion.
