Women in Engineering hosted a Wine & Cheese for all Concordia Engineering students, with the aim of encouraging the presence of women in the engineering field by providing them opportunities of improving their professional networks. A portion of the event was dedicated to promoting sustainable practices to students. Local wines, beers, and foods coming from sustainable sources we served, and we encouraged similar choices to our students. We invited many sustainable and ethical companies to our event and encouraging them to promote and go in depth about their sustainable actions to our students, which allowed students to have a larger network of contacts from sustainable companies. We hosted an introduction of companies towards the beginning of the event that allowed the students to approach the companies more easily. During the brief introductions, we asked them to share one way that their company engages in sustainable practices. We facilitated the asking of open-ended questions in order to educate our attendees on sustainable practices and better engage our students in the discussion.
Women in Engineering hosted a Wine and Cheese event to provide students the opportunity to discover paths in sustainability that professionals have taken, how they have gotten to where they are today, and gain valuable insights that will help to guide their career choices. This will help raise awareness regarding issues such as the presence of women and women-identifying individuals in the field of Engineering, sustainability and new technologies in the market. We honoured representatives from many engineering companies who are either women leaders or active supporters of women in the engineering industry. These environmentally-conscious companies include Smardt, Dectron, Ericsson, Bombardier and Pomerleau.
