Vanessa Nakate, a young Ugandan environmental activist, is making waves in the news and especially in the environmental community. She gained a lot of international attention when she was recently cropped out of a photo by a major news outlet that pictured her and other young climate activists, including Greta Thunberg. She used this incident to call attention to racism and discrimination within the environmental movement and called for more awareness about how less favoured population are affected by global warming. This conference aims to bring this important discussion of representation and inclusivity in the climate justice movement to the Concordia community.

This panel discusses the various impacts that climate change has on our communities, and those most vulnerable to global warming’s impacts. It highlights the economic and social impacts that environmental changes have and work that is being done to strengthen and build resilience in communities both in Canada and the world.
