Uzuri Gala 2026

Uzuri Gala, organized by the African Students’ Association of Concordia (ASAC), is an initiative that celebrates African excellence through cultural expression. Rooted in community, diversity, and sustainability, the project showcases a cultural gala through African art, music, and dance to elevate Black and African representation. This event create a holistic platform that promotes inclusion, cultural exchange, and long-term empowerment within and beyond Concordia University.

Uzuri Gala is an immersive cultural experience that invites the Concordia and Montréal communities to discover the richness of African traditions. Through dance performances, musical showcases, fashion displays, and an African art exposition, the event aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue and appreciation. Guests have an opportunity to connect while supporting Montréal-based African artists. In previous editions, Uzuri Gala attracted over 400 attendees from diverse backgrounds, and this year, we aim to expand our reach even further by prioritizing accessibility and environmentally conscious planning, minimizing waste, and supporting local vendors.

This project aligns with the Sustainability Action Fund’s mission by promoting social sustainability, inclusivity, and cultural resilience. It provides a space where identity and diversity are celebrated, where underrepresented voices are amplified, and where cross-cultural understanding becomes a foundation for collective growth. Beyond its immediate impact, the project leaves lasting impressions: increased awareness of African cultures, strengthened community ties within Concordia, and a visible model of sustainable, inclusive event planning.

By bridging art, culture, and career development, Uzuri encourages participants to see sustainability not just as an environmental issue but as a holistic commitment to human connection and shared progress. It is a celebration of who we are, where we come from, and how we can collectively build a more inclusive, sustainable future, which is one that recognizes that every culture, every story, and every voice has a place in shaping tomorrow.
