Guerrilla gardening is resistance and a form of protest. It is a movement where individuals or groups reclaim spaces by planting and nurturing plants in neglected, public, or private areas. It’s an act of resistance aimed at creating beautiful, green spaces in urban settings, growing food, and reclaiming unused land for and by the community.
In this workshop, participants will explore the intersecting agricultural and landback resistance movements throughout history, from Canada and the US to Africa, Latin America, and beyond. Guided by the teaching of the Zapatistas and Emiliano Zapata’s ‘Tierra y Libertad’ (Land & Freedom) revolutionary movement.
The workshop also includes a hands-on component! Seed bombs are a tool of guerrilla gardening. We will make seed bombs and learn about the best seeds for different spaces, taking into account invasive and native plants.
