We propose a partnership between CUFO Arts and the Indigenous Solidarity Art Cooperative Tlachiuak to host bi-monthly 2–3 day healing retreats that bring together unhoused artists, and Indigenous knowledge holders in an inclusive, collaborative creative environment.
These residencies will provide unhoused artists with a healing space in nature in order to transition out of addiction. We have already been running these retreats over the past two months with personal funding but in order to make it sustainable we will need financial support.
Alongside the residencies, Concordia students will take leadership roles in project management, business planning, fundraising, and website development, gaining hands-on experience in sustainable arts administration while receiving financial support for their contributions. This reciprocal model of learning and care integrates street knowledge, Indigenous knowledge systems, and academic knowledge, embodying the principles of sustainability through equity, community empowerment, and shared creativity.
By funding this initiative, the Sustainability Action Fund will help establish an ongoing bridge between Concordia and Montréal’s unhoused and Indigenous creative communities — nurturing sustainable social infrastructure through the arts.
