SUSTAINABLE CURRICULUM PROJECT

The Sustainability Action Fund is actively committed to representing the student interest in incorporating sustainability into the Curriculum at Concordia University.

We are currently working alongside a dedicated group of Concordia Faculty and Staff to develop a Major in Leadership in Sustainability Studies.

HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

The Sustainable Curriculum Project was a 3-year initiative jointly funded by the Concordia Academic Plan 2012-2016 and the Sustainability Action Fund. Through conducting research preparing reports, and hosting various guest speakers, events and workshops this project has supporting individual faculty members and departments in strategically integrating sustainability content into their courses and programs. Additionally, the identification and cataloguing of existing courses in all faculties can provide a roadmap to undergraduate students seeking to incorporate knowledge of sustainability-related issues into their education.

Since the start of the project, The Sustainable Curriculum team has successfully quantified the sustainability content in the Faculty of Arts and Science, Fine Arts, Engineering and from the John Molson School of Business. We collected course outlines and combed through the 2012/2013/2014 Course Calendar in an attempt to highlight all of the sustainable-related and sustainable-oriented content in the faculty. We invite you to refer to our Sustainable Curriculum Reports to explore the results of last year’s assessment!

The curriculum project team is composed of Concordia University student, staff and faculty members. It is a joint initiative between SAF and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

We look forward to sharing our research with the community and welcome any questions or comments.

REPORTS

With the goal of quantifying the extent of sustainability coverage and highlighting areas for improvement in the undergraduate curriculum at Concordia University, the Sustainability Action Fund partnered with the Academic Plan 2012-2016 to conduct the Sustainable Curriculum Project.

These reports represent the first step of this project, and involved analyzing all available descriptions of courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science, Fine Arts, Engineering and John Molson School of Business at Concordia University. The methodology employed in this analysis is described in detail and provides a template for future evaluations of courses in these faculties and others at Concordia.
