The ICOP Social Business Case Competition stimulates a culture of community and social responsibility among 70 budding Concordia Business Graduates (MBA & GDBA students). It allows students not only to apply knowledge and skills gained during their studies, but also opens views about a different kind of business model, a departure from the traditional profit-driven framework. During this event, the 12 participating teams will be given a case based on real-life challenges faced by an NGO.
In 2019/20 ICOP worked with an NGO called Asante Africa, which delivers an ecosystem model of interconnected programs that encourage, educate, train, and apply knowledge to life challenges. The programs are managed by local staff and delivered in concert with global support and key partners in the communities where Asante Africa works. More specifically, the case in our competition will focus on Asante Africa’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) program and will seek to find ways to increase alumni engagement. Asante Africa’s long term goal is to increase former participants’ involvement in the development of their business communities in order to reduce reliance on the NGO and on global support.
In 2018/19 ICOP worked with NGO, Center for Social Development (CEDESOCIAL). It works with women, youth, and families to address issues in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, domestic and gender-based violence, sexual abuse, etc, ICOP has worked closely with CEDESOCIAL since 2015, by sending Concordia students to intern with them every year. The case competition will also be used as a platform to promote our internship program and get students excited about participating in it as an alternative to the usual internships in profit-driven corporations.
