The Department of Education graduate students will host an annual interdisciplinary symposium. The mission of the Graduate Symposium of the Department of Education (GSDE) is to provide students from Concordia and other universities with the opportunity to present their original research, develop interdisciplinary and inter-university collaboration, and support academic endeavors. The GSDE aims to fulfill all of its objectives while promoting sustainability on campus through our initiative to raise awareness about Indigenous issues, the need for community development through education and research, and in our commitment to the zero-waste food policy.
This event showcases presentations, panels, and discussions on current issues facing our education systems and the exciting, innovative research being done by students and faculty at Concordia and other universities to support and address these topics. Four speakers at the event will be discussing issues related to sustainability. The first is on the topic of Season Jars, a student-led food coalition group at Concordia that aims to disseminate sustainability knowledge and use food as a platform for knowledge exchange through hands-on collective learning workshops. This discussion will be led by speaker Sherif Goubran. The second will be a discussion led by a group of 3 presenters – Julia De Marco, Amanda Sidiras, and Alexa Carota — who will discuss how we can review and categorize different collaborative learning approaches in the context of the sustainability and food movements.
